SSL certificates

SSL stands for Secure-Socket layer. All secure ecommerce wesbites have them - you can see them usually in 2 ways

  1. The web address changes from http://www.example.com to https://www.example.com. This is not a guarantee of security.
  2. Your browser should have a little lock icon in the bottom right hand corner

Before Cart45 will work on a live server, that server must have an SSL certificate - without it, it may be impossible to view the Cart45 admin area, the website's customer area or the checkout.

It's important that those 3 areas remain secure as they deal with customers' persponal and financial details and your businesses sales details. SSL does an important job in preventing unscrupulous people from accessing those details. If we allowed your Cart45 website to operate without an SSL installed we'd be doing you a disservice.

No SSL, yet?

If you do not yet have an SSL certificate you can test drive Cart45 by setting it as up as a test website as oppsoed to a live website. This will allow you to view all those encrypted areas freely. It will will also allow you to take test payments provided you have test accounts setup with Google Checkout or Protx.

Where to get an SSL certificate

SSL certificates can be bought online and have to be installed on your web server. Your best option is to speak to someone at your web hosting company for advice - they may have a easy package to set one of these up for your website.
